White Oak Scholarship Program
The Midwest Native Plant Society, Inc. has created the White Oak Scholarship Program, which offers financial assistance to youth under 18 or qualified adults working in the fields of horticulture or science who are interested in nature but may face financial obstacles. The scholarship covers the cost of event registration for at least one of the society’s yearly events. These events offer a combination of indoor sessions and field experiences. This provides an excellent opportunity for recipients to learn and expand their network.
Applications are accepted only in January. The number of scholarships granted each year depends on the availability of funds raised through proceeds and donations. The society carefully screens all applications to ensure that the funds are utilized effectively for the mission.
For applicants under 18, the White Oak Scholarship Program requires a strong interest in nature and adult supervision during the event. No volunteer work is required, and lodging costs are not included. However, meals are provided.
For applicants over 18, the scholarship requires a demonstrated academic or professional interest in native plants, conservation, or related fields. Recipients must commit to volunteering for up to 2-3 hours per day and are responsible for tasks such as seating attendees during presentations, assisting at daytime or evening events and field trips, staffing the registration desk, and assisting trip leaders with packing and transporting coolers. Lodging is not included, but shared lodging may be available, and meals are provided.
The White Oak Scholarship Program provides nature enthusiasts an incredible opportunity to gain knowledge and become a part of Ohio’s naturalist community. If you wish to apply, note that the application process opens in January until full. To apply, email midwestnativeplants@gmail.com with your name, phone, email address, and a brief explanation of how you would benefit from attending the program. Once we receive your email, we will provide more information about the application process. We look forward to hearing from you!
